Overview


This course is based on lectures and discussions of primary literature readings of recent research in the field of brain aging in humans. fMRI studies of patients suffering from a number of neurodegenerative diseases are also covered.

Lectures and discussions explore the clinical, behavioral, and molecular aspects of brain aging processes in humans. Topics include the loss of memory and other cognitive abilities in normal aging, as well as neurodegenerative conditions, such as, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, and Multiple sclerosis.



Assignments


Students are expected to give oral presentations in class based on a selected journal article from the readings list. There is one mid-term exam and a final exam.
