What if 1 board ran Michigan's universities?

If some Republican lawmakers succeed, Michigan's unique brand of university governance -- autonomy, little state control -- may inch toward a new statewide university system.

But it's a tough road ahead with legislation to create a commission to study the idea still in committee. Also, the process for changing the state constitution, which sets out some existing rules, is long and difficult.
