University at Buffalo gets largest-ever gift

A doctor who received his medical degree from the University at Buffalo has donated $40 million to the school.

It is the largest gift from an individual donor in the university's 165-year history, the school said Wednesday.

The doctor, who has died, requested that he not be identified. He received his degree during World War II, lived modestly while practicing medicine in a small community and wisely invested for years with the intent of giving back to UB, the university said.
