California State University trustees voted to boost student fees by 5 percent for fall 2010, saying it's the only way to absorb deep funding cuts and maintain enrollment.

The increase, approved at a meeting Friday of the CSU board in Long Beach, translates into a $204 annual increase for full-time undergraduates — bringing the total state university fee to $4,230. Trustees also increased fees 10 percent for those seeking doctorate degrees in education.
