University computer breach could affect 30,000 people

While there is no evidence that any records were accessed, nearly 30,000 individuals may have been affected by security breaches discovered last week on several Penn State computers.

Malicious software was found on computers that contained Social Security numbers in archived files that were "essentially hidden" and very deep in the system, university spokeswoman Annemarie Mountz said. The malware was detected by Penn State Security Operations and Service.
