    High School diploma/GED (foreign equivalent or higher degree).​ Prior working knowledge of typical tests, procedures or techniques relative to the field of protein production and purification.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Associates degree (foreign equivalent or higher degree). Experience in:

    Bacterial, insect, or mammalian cell culture

    Preparation of buffers and reagents

    Harvesting and lysing bacterial, insect, or mammalian cells

    Affinity-resin-based protein purification, such as nickel-affinity purification for his-tagged proteins

    Protein characterizations such as using SDS-PAGE analysis

    Protein purification using ion exchange or size-exclusion columns

    Brief Description of Duties:
    The Research Technician I position in the Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology will learn from and assist the Principal Investigator with research tasks aimed at structural and functional understanding of cellular calcium signaling and stress response. Working under general supervision, the incumbent will perform a variety of standard tasks or procedures to assist a research project in the Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology. The research project involves performing bacterial cell culture, protein expression using affinity and size-exclusion columns, protein characterization using SDS-PAGE analysis, and protein quantification. In addition, the work duty involves lab maintenance including reagent ordering.​ The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. They will be self-motivated and have work-schedule flexibility.     Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, assist cell culture, protein production, purification, and analysis in the field of structural biology.
    Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.
    Other duties as assigned, which may include preparation of cryo-EM samples and collecting scientific data.
    Special Notes: FLSA Non Exempt part time position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation.
