  • Job Summary

    The Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Technology, reports to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and is responsible for assisting the CIO with coordination of designated Information Technology (IT) functions including: IT department team leadership and oversight for assigned key technology support service areas that include IT Administrative Services, Enterprise Campus Technology Services and Project & Change Management Services; and as deemed necessary by the CIO, department leadership support tasks for Innovation & Enterprise Auxiliary Services, Enterprise Business Application Services, Cyber Security, and Network Infrastructure and Systems Administration. Oversees operations management related to planning, organizing, directing and controlling of daily routine operations for assigned service areas. Provides frequent supervision and consultation of the large volume of special projects and has direct responsibility for project and change management oversight. Provides leadership and oversight of staff including the following functions: financial management oversight assistance, quality assurance and compliance, project management, information systems audit, systems support services, and end-user training and assistance.

    Responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, financial information is reliable and compliant with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

    Manages Talent Engagement activities for direct reports in regard to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, development, mentoring, counseling, and performance evaluations.


    Manage all aspects of the IT department as defined by the CIO.

    Provide leadership to Information Technology in support of administrative, student support, and academic concerns.

    Assist in the development of District-wide long and short range plans for IT support services.

    Direct project and change management processes and assist with the evaluation of the merits and costs of information technology projects, establish priorities, allocate resources, monitor the progress of projects, and make adjustments to schedules and scope of work as needed.

    Oversee and manage processes and plans associated with the service level agreements and performance metrics.

    Keep up with technological advancements in information technology and evaluates the applicability of new approaches to the information systems of the District, and initiate changes in approaches to applications and system design, hardware capacity or configuration, and resource allocation as needed.

    Assist with the development of system-wide policies, procedures, standards, practices, and security measures to assure the integrity and reliability of computerized information, communications, and systems.

    Chair assigned advisory committees composed of faculty, staff, and administration and establish joint approaches to meeting District-wide needs for information technology operational support systems.

    Assist the Chief Information Officer and Procurement in negotiations for the acquisition, lease, modification, installation of software, hardware, and related products for the District's current and future hosted and on premise information systems.

    Assist with the evaluation of vendor proposals for purchases of systems, software, and technical services to assure adherence to technical specifications and to assure that expenditures are in the best interest of the District.

    Coordinate the implementation of user-oriented training on the capabilities, use, and availability of system data, equipment, and resources.

    Successfully collaborates with and provides customer focused technical advice and guidance to District and campus administrators and staff on the design, installation, modification, and operation of college-based information systems projects to ensure institutional goals are aligned with information technology plans.

    Assist with the development of strategic relationships with various constituencies across the state of Texas as well as in the higher education and corporate community.

    Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.


    Education & Experience

    Master’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Services, Business Administration, Higher Education Leadership or related field required
    8 years of progressively responsible administrative experience managing complex Information Technology departments in a higher education environment required
