There was a time when no University outside America could claim to be as good. The quality of higher education remained unmatched in our country till just a decade ago. The teachers were highly skilled and were masters at handling and managing students. American universities also gained a lot of importance for the kind of facilities they offered to the students.

All this has changed rapidly in the past few years. Universities across our country are certainly not the same as they were just a few years back. The quality of education is declining at a rapid pace and this is an alarming sign for not only the students and their parents, but also for the economy of the country. A lot has been said and written about why the quality of education is on the decline. There is not much left to ponder over. It is important to note however the consequences of this decline.

When a parent decides to send his/her child to a particular college/university, what are the aspects that they look into? Value for money and a decent education is certainly something every parent will want for their children.  This is a natural concern. Ideally, every parent wants their children to go to the best colleges. Sadly, the fact today is that most cannot afford education at the top colleges.

In the current scenario, majority of colleges in our country fail to offer the best ‘Value for Money’. Quality of education and the university students study in plays a major role in getting them decent jobs. Just a few years back, if you got a degree from a good college, you were assured of getting a job immediately. Today the situation is totally different. As you look around, you can see a lot of students with a solid degree jobless.

Parents have started wondering why they should even break their backs paying tuition fees at colleges if their son or daughter cannot even get a job in the near future. Many feel that rather than wasting time in colleges, students are better off finding a job as soon as they complete school.  If you look at the increase in the rate of unemployment in recent years, it makes sense for many students to take up jobs at a young age, especially students who belong to a modest background.

However, taking up jobs at the cost of education is certainly not the solution we want. After all, if things have to improve, education is the only way out for America and its economy. Looking at things in the current perspective, the aspect of ‘Value for Money’ would probably improve only if the tuition fees come down drastically or more job opportunities are made available for aspiring students. A mix of the two solutions would probably be ideal and it is time to sit together and work out an effective solution.
