  • For most college students, studying is one of the hardest parts of school. There are so many distractions and more important things to do than waste the evenings studying for exams. So, instead most students will either spend the night before the test hopped up on Red Bull cramming, or they will try to wing it. Neither option is a good one.

Outlined below are the top 10 study habits of a successful student. It’s not too late to re-arrange your study habits and actually ace your exams.

    1. Take notes in class. Most people assume that the teacher is going to post the notes online, or that the information is in the textbook so there is no need to take notes in class. However, note taking is one of the best ways to remember the information.

    2. Read and re-read. Don’t just skim through your notes once. Read them twice, three times, four times.

    3. Highlight. Highlighting the important parts of your textbook the first time you read it will ensure that your mind returns to those sentences the second time around.

    4. Plan out your study habit. Allocate a certain amount of time every night for studying and stick to the plan.

    5. Take breaks. You cannot stare at a textbook for hours and hours without either falling asleep or losing your mind. Go for a quick walk or stretch your legs.

    6. Reward yourself. Allow yourself a simple treat if you stick to your study routine.

    7. Make flashcards. Flashcards are a great study tool because not only are you remembering the information while you are making them, but you can also use them to study with a friend.

    8. Use a multi-colour pen for your notes. This brings an element of fun to the paper and can make it easier to concentrate.

    9. Stay sober the night before. Skip the Wednesday Whisky Night at the local pub and get a good night sleep.

    10. And, finally, relax. After all, it’s only a test.
