Just like all of us, our President too hopes for a quick economic recovery and looks forward to an optimistic year ahead. This was evident in his efforts to ignite the American economy by motivating Americans to rediscover the spirit of innovation at the State of the Union address.
He presented the general policy recommendations for consideration to the congress in his speech. One of his focuses is to create jobs and ensure economic growth in order to revive the spirit of American innovation.
Mandated in the Constitution, this address is given once a year usually a week prior to the annual budget presentation by the President to the Congress, says political science professor Tim LaPira.
Some of the other aspects apart from creating new jobs in our country included in the agenda of our President are promoting better efficiency through reorganization of government and tax code, decreasing national debt, making higher education affordable for all and removing troops from Afghanistan.
President Obama strongly feels that it is imperative to focus and improve on the K-public schools and enhance higher education access for citizens. He hopes that public schools will continue to improve with the Race to the Top program and graduates will hitherto be better prepared for education as well as workforce. He said that this program has indeed done a great deal in improving the standard of education in many states.
He said that if our country was to compete with fast growing global competition, it is imperative that higher education is within the reach of every single American. He said that this was the very reason why taxpayer subsidies were eliminated and the funds were utilized towards making education affordable for millions.
Our President specifically mentioned a desire to improve science and math in public education as this could mean more funding and programming in these fields. Many experts were optimistic about our President’s initiatives and this includes the junior political science major Becki Schumm. He was encouraged specifically by the President’s views on economy.
Obama definitely put a positive impetus into the future of our economy and used the State of Union to inspire and unite apart from offering policy proposals. He effectively reminded all citizens that the State of Union is definitely strong. Apart from education, he focused on other issues like energy investment, job creation and developments in infrastructure.
It is evident that our President is making a sincere effort in empowering our nation through quality education. It is up to us as citizens to stop undue criticism, recognize sincere efforts for what it is and motivate each other in accessing education at the grass root level. President Obama is definitely right in identifying education as the key factor that could make or break our economy.
He is striving to keep us on the top where we have always been and our cooperation is imperative at this stage to ensure that his efforts are not futile. Let us unite to bring about a massive transformation in our economy through higher education initiatives and reclaim our lost glory.
