  • Are Muslim colleges required in USA?

  • Religion has always posed a problem especially in the field of education. In the recent past, America has been wary of the Islam religion. We know for a fact that as a religion Islam believes and practices non-violence and is all about inner turmoil. However, some miscreants have created a lot of issues in the garb of Islam as a religion.

So when the first Islamic college opened in America, there are bound to be raised eyebrows
and questions regarding its necessity. However, the founders of the Islamic education institution openly defend their stance. They believe that they have a right to learn more about their religion and the point that whether it is required or not, does not arise.

They believe that Islamic youth today, in America, are facing identity crisis. They cannot
relate to their own religion and culture. And such an institution will help them get clarity of
what Islam is all about. This is necessary for today’s youth.

But there are many who are against this decision. This is because they believe that an Islamic
education institution is propagandist just like the ethnic studies being offered out in Arizona
and other states. The education department feels that with such niche study areas, it is
easier to fill the young minds with thoughts that separate them from the regular American
    children.

It puts a stop to their thinking process and colours their perception. But this is of
course not true. This is because such a thought is just very limited. People are just afraid of
the past but they cannot categorize all Muslims in one category. Every religion might have
some religious issues but this does not mean that they can be classified as problematic sects.

The Zaytuna College hopes to acquire their first accreditation soon. So this means they are
working towards gaining recognition so that their students benefit the maximum from their
degree as it will be recognised in the world. The students here, not only study about Islam but
also study subjects like literature, mathematics, anthropology and many more.

They are not the first as many educated Muslims have founded mosques, religious institutions
and schools in America. Plus they have been giving many seminars for students and youth
in America. None of these are propagandist in nature. When these student mingle with
regular American children, the American citizens might get the real picture of what the religion
    is all about.

Muslims want to have a clear Muslim identity and want to prove to the world that Islam is
a peaceful religion. So the point here is that if the institution is going to offer proper and complete education, along with the right insights into Islam, then it is a good thing. There is no harm in following one’s religion and learning more about it.

Education should not be obstructed in the garb of religion. The education system on the whole
is facing a major crisis and the government is trying to put everything back in shape.
