President Obama is striving hard towards reforming the education system in the country. Education has taken a serious hit during the recession hit times and the country is still reeling from the after-effects.
 
Bad news still persists for students belonging to the minority groups. A recent study stated that minority kids will still have very few opportunities as compared to the regular white American kids. They will lack opportunities in the area of health, education, community support and even security.
 
The comparison and the difference is steep between the lifestyles of kids belonging to the regular American communities and those belonging to Hispanic or other ethnic groups. It is seen that 59 percent of the white American kids have better opportunities to live violence free lives than the ethnic kids. They have better access to games and other lifestyle requirements, most importantly the education they receive. About 39 percent of Hispanic children and almost 37 percent of African-American kids have fewer opportunities for such a lifestyle.
 
Most of the kids that were observed in this study were under 8. It was seen that American kids have access to better health and medical facilities than the kids belonging to the ethnic groups. The kids observed and analysed in this survey were kids belonging to low-income families belonging to different races.
 
We already know the fight the Arizona schools are putting up with the government; cancelling classes that teach ethnic studies. While the government is in denial about the stringent measures, various states are fighting tooth and nail for their rights.
 
Another recent report released stated that while the children of the immigrants would be granted rights to study, they would never be allowed to work. A major uproar was caused which such news. Students who come to American for higher studies stated that they feel cheated that after spending so many years in the country they call their second home, and being at par with the regular American kids, they would be left behind only because the government will not allow them to hold jobs.
 
Many parents have voiced their concerns as well. but Americans who are ‘for’ such a policy stated that as Americans they have more rights to education and jobs than the ethnic groups because they are the true citizens of the country first. Plus right now they are struggling to make ends meet because the jobs reserved for them go to the others than their own children.
 
So what is the government or the education system going to do about all of this? Are we going to watch the country crumble? We do realise that education is the only way in which the country can reel itself out of the tough times and also that every child will henceforth contribute to the economy of the country when they work here. So are these rules still necessary? Is making the lives of the ethnic groups much more difficult going to work in the favour of the country. I don’t think so.
