Education has long become a fundamental right in America. We know that everyone child has the right to education more than anything else. Schools are opened across the country to make sure more and more children can be gifted with education.

Popular schools have opened branches and so on. But then imparting education to one and all would mean that finally, everyone will have some sort of degree. While this is a good thing, the act of getting a degree becomes very common. It is not prestigious anymore because anyone and everyone have it. It is becoming common. And when something becomes common, it loses its charm.

At a particular school, graduation is not fun anymore. Why? This is because in the past each year, a particular student was elected to receive the merit award, based on her/his performance through the high school years. But this year, there are seven students competing for the same title. In fact all seven of them scored similar marks and grades and therefore, they are contending for the award. This means there will be seven victory speeches this year. While it might be great to have so many students who are very good in studies and other curricular activities, it feels that the quality of education has diluted.

Take for example, books or novels. Today publishing has become easier than what it was in the days of the yore. People’s preferences for reading books have changed as well. no one would like to write classics only because people are not interested in them. Apart from this, whoever feels they write well, can get their books self published. Therefore, the quality of books available today is dwindling as well.

Similarly education is being diluted. Just because everyone needs to be educated, the quality is being compromised upon. This means that because this school’s students were good, the examiners gave them similar marks and hence, they were contending for the award. But if they were to contend for the same job as well, then it would become problematic. This is because the job would be for one person but now it would have seven people competing for it. These seven students are at par and therefore, selecting one over the other would not be easy.

So what are the schools and universities going to do in such situations? Just passing out clever students in huge numbers is not going to serve the purpose. Because outside, everyone wants a job and jobs are not as many as the students. Hence, some amount of students will either face unemployment or will have to settle for jobs that are not up to the mark for them.

This is going to create a problem in the future. Already people face a crunch where jobs are concerned. That leaves me with a question; is being average not okay anymore? I do not see a solution for this situation either. If the government comes up with one, it would be great!
