  • Some of the careers that are set to grow in the coming years include network systems analysts, biomedical engineers and home health aides according to Federal labor statistics released recently.

According to education and business local leaders, tomorrow’s jobs can be filled with talent that will emerge from the expansion of programs that are technically based. During his visit to the Hudson Valley Community College, President Barack Obama said that projections show that jobs that require an associate’s degree will grow very fast, in fact as fast as jobs that do not ask for college experience. He then went on to reiterate his commitment to graduate more American students.

The business community needs are being adapted to for future job requirements by two-year degree institutions. According to Capital Region’s Department of Labor analyst James Ross, it is enough for a person to hold an associate degree to be eligible for most of the jobs in future.
In the field of construction, health care and education and training, the largest increase will be in the Capital Region and to be eligible to work in any of these fields it is important to have a technical background.

Students must be taught by local educators in high school, the necessary skills required for advanced technical degrees. For instance it is necessary for construction workers to be informed about using new materials in order to build state-of-art facilities. Similarly, it is necessary for medical professionals to cope with the demands of latest technologically advanced equipment. Capital Region offers a variety of advanced degree programs for graduates who want to continue their education.

With the construction of ‘Fab 8’ and ‘Global Foundries’, Tech Valley region is projected to offer a variety of high-tech opportunities. Anticipating high tech construction, industry professionals enhance their technical capabilities through non degree programs.

College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering in Albany has introduced advanced degree graduate courses to emerging career paths locally partnering medical and other professional institutions. Recent graduates are already filling up the technical positions available with nano-toxicity sensors and diagnostic implants.

County officials and Dalton last year chose ten high-tech companies planning on moving to their area to meet with their representatives. The representatives were requested by them to go through and review the Ballston Spa School District’s curriculum and suggest any changes.

Analysis was provided by eight companies and most of them felt that graduates will actually find it difficult working as a team as they lack effective personal communication skills. The picture is clear. It is important to both start your career as well as equip yourself with life skills for graduates according to local career counsellors.

There is a unique transition going on in the local job market. Many high tech opportunities will be presented to graduates creating new opportunities. It is the need of the hour to produce talented graduates who are trained overall to work in these companies. Growth of jobs in local tech sector will lead to better standard of living thereby creating more job opportunities.
