College life is becoming more and more complicated with coming year. It is also getting more and more expensive. Recently, I read this article in the NY times, about this girl Called Anna Rice.
During the day she sits in the hallway in a dorm at Northeastern University in Boston along with her books at a desk. It is her job to ask for ids from students who approach her.
Then for the next few minutes, she tries to help them out with whatever they sport equipment they require. Students also want DVDs for the evening. For work like this and similar to this, Ms. Rice receives $10 for each hour. In her case she had made up to $1250 in one semester. She usually spends this money for her food shopping and some of it as her spending money.
The college jobs have become a piece of financial puzzle, the paper states. It is now dependent on the ways of the government, the current economy and also on the whims and fancies on each year’s students. Times were different before, they would work hard in shifts and then help each other out within the campus. But now life Is more outsourced at the campus. Everything has now become complicated. Before, jobs were about helping them with money. But now students want to do something that which will add to their resumes.
Whatever the job maybe at the universities, it is the government still that puts in 75% of these wages and the college provides for 25% of them. One has to put in hours of work else, there will be no job or money.
The demands of such jobs have become higher when the times are bad and lower when the times are good. Even the participating institutions have to now think about granting the jobs and then paying the wages. This is due to the rising demands.
