AMC is now in receipt of the H1N1 influenza vaccine. We had a clinic session on Friday November 6, 2009 by invitation only for the students who would be at high risk of complications from influenza. This group of students was determined to be a high risk based on the protocols provided by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH.) The number of doses we received was also regulated by the MDPH. We were given 100 doses and have utilized half of our supply.
We would now like to open the remaining supply of vaccine to our resident student population. We will be scheduling clinics for this week and the week of November 16. Please note that we are on the list to receive more of the vaccine over the next few weeks as it is released to us by the MDPH. We will send an e-mail to students to let you know the date, time, and location of the clinics as they are scheduled.
As always, the best practice to prevent transmission of the influenza virus is to:
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your inner elbow and not your hands.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, or use an alcohol based hand-sanitizer, especially after you cough or sneeze.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
- Do not share food, drink, utensils, or anything that goes in or near your mouth.
- Use disinfectants to clean frequently touched areas like keyboards, door knobs, cell phones, desks, etc.
Have a great week and stay healthy
