A program designed to provide counseling services at no fee to the entire Dominican University of California community.
Counseling sessions are personal and private. Our program provides a supportive environment where people can explore, change and grow at their own pace, based on their own needs and desires. Sessions are usually fifty minutes long, once a week.
The students, faculty and staff of Dominican are eligible to use Counseling Services.
We all have a variety of concerns that can affect how we deal with the day-to-day world. Having someone to talk to can often help us put things into perspective and make decisions that will enhance our lives and relationships.
Counseling can deal with issues such as relationships, school, test anxiety, study problems, suicidal thoughts, "fitting in", family difficulties, alcohol and drug abuse, stress, and general feelings of being "stuck." Sometimes you may not have a specific concern, but just need to talk to someone.
The counselors are trainees and advanced students in the Master's in Counseling Psychology program at Dominican under the supervision of Charles R. Billings, Ph.D., FAClinP., FAFamP., licensed clinical psychologist (Psy #4446), and a Fellow of the Academy of Clinical and Family Psychology.
Counseling appointments can be made by calling 415-485-3258 or by dropping by the University Counseling Services Office in Room 21 of Bertrand Hall. Appointments are available mornings and afternoons, Monday through Friday. You need only give your first name and phone number; a counselor will call you to confirm the appointment.
All sessions are confidential. Only in the event of a threat of harm to oneself or another is the counselor legally and ethically bound to step beyond confidentiality to safeguard the well-being of those involved.
