University of Illinois to appeal privacy ruling

The University of Illinois said Tuesday that it would appeal a federal court ruling that a federal privacy act does not prevent the release of information about hundreds of college applicants who appeared on a list of well-connected students.

The Tribune sought those records as part of its 2009 "Clout Goes to College" investigation, eventually filing a state lawsuit against the university that year when U. of I. officials denied several Freedom of Information Act requests under a privacy law that....
