Critics of Boston College’s move to the ACC from the Big East warned it would be a bad fit. The Eagles, who played a thick-necked brand of football in the Northeast, would have a hard time hanging with speedy teams from the South such as Clemson and Florida State, or so the theory went.

Well, in their first five years since switching leagues, the Eagles obliterated the notion that they can’t compete in the ACC, winning two Atlantic Division titles and being in the hunt until November every year.....
