The question threw University of Kansas Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little off stride a bit.

Was she surprised or bothered by any of the provisions agreed to in the contract of athletic director Lew Perkins by her predecessor?

During a 30-minute question-and-answer session with The Kansas City Star on Wednesday, she was calm, confident but careful in answering questions about her university’s tumultuous three weeks. But on Perkins’ incentive-laden contract, Gray-Little hesitated.
