    This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Biological Science Research Technician 2 position for the Klamath Basin Research & Extension Center at Oregon State University (OSU).

    This position will be located in Klamath Falls, Oregon

    This position exists to support the project PI with agronomic field-based research activities as well as data collection for various local, statewide and regional agronomic trials. The incumbent will work collaboratively with the project PI or the station director on technical matters related to crop production practices for small grains, forages, oilseeds, alternative crops, row crops, and related issues relevant to agriculture in the Klamath Basin.

    Work also includes maintenance of buildings, grounds, machinery and equipment and performance of procedure in support of agronomic research while also providing shared general support for Agricultural Experiment Station portion of KBREC facilities and farming activities in coordination with the Director.

    During the field season (April to December) the incumbent will primarily focus on work related to supporting research activities. During off-season (January to March) incumbent will primarily work to service, maintain, repair and/or fabricate equipment and/or machinery in preparation for the field season.

    Key Responsibilities
    75% Research Support
    Assist project leader to provide support with applied research on projects at KBREC and off-station sites in support of local, statewide, and regional agronomic, cereal/alternative crop trials. Per direction of the Director and Project Leader, the position will assist with , field preparation, materials procurement and organization, selecting, calibrating and properly using the most appropriate field equipment and methods for planting, crop care (includes chemical application such as fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides), irrigation scheduling, harvesting, seed processing, forage and grain testing, sample grading, sorting, indexing, and data collection utilizing computer-generated data management systems.
    Communicate with the Project Leader and coordinate and perform the organization, and input of data from experiments.
    Maintain detailed and accurate records of all activities related to research projects, including, tasks performed, materials used, incidence of disease or pests, plant development, and other conditions affecting results.

    15 % Facilities and Equipment Maintenance
    Collaborate with Director and other faculty/staff to perform farming functions (includes chemical application such as fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides) to support KBREC bulk rotational and other non-research areas as needed.
    Collaborate with Director and other faculty/staff to service, maintain, repair and/or fabricate equipment and/or machinery.

    5% Lead Work
    Provide guidance to seasonal, student, and/or temporary employees in the areas of crop care, harvesting and sample preparation and evaluation. This includes planning, assigning, and approving work after consulting with project PI.

    5% Professional Development and Service
    Participate in professional development opportunities that enhance technical, educational, and leadership skills.
    Attend and participate in training opportunities to remain current on safety issues.
