Primary Purpose of the Position
The Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE) at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) invites applications for a nine-month, full-time non-tenure track Biology Lecturer position beginning August 2025. Successful candidates will teach a variety of introductory and upper-division biology courses, which include General Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Histology, Genetics, and Molecular Biology. The teaching assignments will include undergraduate lectures and laboratory courses for biology majors, health sciences programs, nursing majors, and general education biology courses for non-majors. All candidates are expected to serve as academic advisors and mentors. Service expectations include participation in departmental, College, and university service as well as engage in service to the professional discipline and the larger Winston-Salem and Forsyth County community.
The Department of Biological Sciences provides programs for students in Biology resulting in a Bachelor of Science degree. Biological Sciences also supports other schools/departments in the University with courses needed by their students. These include Health and Exercise Sciences, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Physical Therapy and Nursing.

We seek exceptional candidates who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching biological sciences to undergraduate students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The following qualifications and skills are required:
A Ph.D. in biology or related biological sciences (physiology, molecular biology) from an accredited graduate program
Demonstrated experience in teaching undergraduate courses in biological sciences
A minimum of two years post-doctoral training experience
Experience using Canvas or a similar Learning Management System
Experience using emerging technologies in teaching and learning that engages students in the learning process
Demonstrated activities that show professional growth and development via engagement in professional organizations and professional conferences related to disciplines within biological sciences
Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Preference will be given to candidates who have:
Experience with teaching in large class format
Experience in effective student engagement (in person and online)
Experience in delivery of both on-campus and on-line classes
