Job Summary
Research Scientist Position at Energy & Geoscience Institute, University of Utah
The Energy & Geoscience Institute (EGI) at the University of Utah (https://egi.utah.edu/) invites applications for a senior research scientist position. The position entails managing an existing geothermal energy research program, and developing dynamic, externally-funded research opportunities. Ongoing geothermal research at EGI includes the U.S. Department of Energy sponsored Utah FORGE (Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy) project (https://utahforge.com/). Utah FORGE is an Engineered Geothermal Systems (EGS) demonstration project that has been funded at over $200 M during the last eight years and has been recently awarded an additional $80 M for developing, testing, and accelerating breakthroughs in EGS technologies through 2028.
We seek the best available candidate with strengths focusing on geothermal energy-related settings – with the ability to manage research agendas for all geothermal applications. A Ph.D in Geosciences or Engineering is preferred; however, candidates with a lesser university degree with exceptional professional experience will also be considered. Continued emphasis would be placed on expanding EGI’s reputation as a geothermal center of excellence and in expanding its academic mission. Responsibilities
1. Works with other principal investigators on implementing the overall goals of the geothermal program at EGI and University of Utah.
2. Seeks opportunities to expand the scope of the existing program through government and industry partnerships.
3. Provides strategic direction by setting short and long-term goals, estimating budgetary requirements for staff, and implementing special projects and policies.
4. Develops strategies consistent with the EGI and University of Utah’s continuous quality improvement program.
5. Forecasts staffing, capital and operating budget needs in evaluating and reporting on market sensitivity, financial analysis, staff performance evaluation as needed, etc.
6. Ensures customer satisfaction by analyzing complaints, concerns and suggestions and providing appropriate follow-through.
7. Ensures competency of management/supervisory staff through the development and/or presentation of educational programs and through on-going staff performance evaluation.
8. Markets and promotes new and existing programs and services to internal and external customers.

Minimum Qualifications
