Job Summary
The department of Compliance Oversight & Reporting is looking for a curious, detail-oriented person to become a team member in support of the research mission at the University of Utah. This position provides post-award central administrative guidance and interacts with university faculty and staff with regard to effort reporting and payroll, analysis of financial transactions, and direct costs charged to sponsored institutional research projects. Responsibilities
Prepares and interprets management information and other financial reports.
Analyzes financial documents, statistical data, historical data and presents to and interprets for management.
Participates in the establishment and maintenance of cost accounting systems.
Reviews and processes payroll reallocations and manages the University’s effort reporting system.
Audits accounting transactions, reconciles data, and resolves technical problems or recommends solutions when appropriate.
Analyzes trends and possible consequences.
Provides expert advice, guidance, and training to university departments regarding sponsored awards and appropriate administrative processes.
Enforces compliance and ensures consistency with federal and state regulations, University policies and procedures.
On occasion, helps provide information for audits.
Assists in solving financial problems related to the administration of awards.
Reviews, interprets, and implements sponsoring agency rules and processes corrections to financial statements.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); plus two years of related experience. Also required are a thorough knowledge of established accounting principles and practices; spreadsheet and database skills; knowledge of statistics and demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relation and effective communication skills required.
An advanced degree, such as a Master’s of Business Administration, is preferred. Certain positions may require familiarity with hospital billing systems, Medicare and insurance reimbursement regulations, etc.

Preferences
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
Experience in research administration and sponsored project administration.
Experience in higher education or state government.
A thorough understanding of the rules and regulations associated with federal, state and private grants and contracts in a university environment.
Working knowledge of PeopleSoft software is a plus.
