It's never just one element or component that determines your admission. If you lack in one area, you need to excel in another to beat out the candidate next to you. So let's just say your GMAT score is not as desirable as others, then you need to concentrate on your other strengths. That's when you can fully use your essay to brag about your other achievements and leadership.
