The M.A. Program in Teaching and Curriculum (MATC) is designed for beginning and experienced teachers alike, the majority of whom are teaching full time and all of whom are deeply committed to public education and teaching P-12 students. Participation in the MATC program requires a deep, dual commitment to teachers’ learning as well as to students’ learning. Our program tailors coursework to meet our students’ individual interests while focusing on the program goals of:
Engaging in critical inquiry
Developing as accomplished teachers
Becoming teacher leaders
Applicants to the MATC may choose one of two options, whichever best suits their needs:
A. The On-campus MATC program --traditional, onsite courses and/or a blend of onsite, face-to-face courses along with hybrid and online courses. (this may be all online, all on-campus, or any combination--note that taking "online course" does not necessarily require being admitted to an "online program")
B .The Online MATC program -- While we have offered a growing variety of online and hybrid courses for some time, beginning Spring 2009, students may chose to apply to our new entirely online program at a special tuition rate lower than out-of-state/in-residence. Ideal for students wishing to complete a Master's Degree at Michigan State University, but who are unable to easily commute to MSU's campus in East Lansing. Students in the Online MATC must take all of their courses online.
Doing the Online MATC is also an economical alternative to paying out-of-state-tuition for those students who wish to pursue a quality, MSU graduate degree in teaching and curriculum, but are otherwise unable to relocate to East Lansing for a two-year program. For more information on tuition and fees, please see our Costs and Financial Aid page!
